Purpose, disclaimer, feedback, licensePurposeMany people, of all ages and all 'walks-of-life,' are afraid of math. They are 'taught' by well-willing teachers who although doing their best to prevent or take away that fear and frustration, are often not equipped with means and ways to make math inviting and stimulating. Moreover, students may just 'give up' when things are not immediately clear to them. After all, isn't math supposed to be difficult? Whatever the causes, way too many students are left behind early-on and will consider math as a realm forever inaccessible; forever a disappointment. One of the nice things about the Internet and Web is that nowadays there exist lots of places where math concepts are well explained and can be studied at students' convenience. Far less abundant, however, are the websites where students can actually 'play' with that math; i.e., interact and play with the numbers, the equations, symbols, geometry, etc. in order to explore and see how that math behaves. Learning through play is an established principle in learning theory and psychology and entire organizations and learning programs have been developed around it. That is what the pages on this site are about: playing and experimenting with some simple math subjects which although considered 'math,' can be 'played with' in order to, perhaps, make them a little easier to understand and possibly even interesting.About the pagesAll the pages on math-to-play-with are constructed with basic Web technologies. Simple HTML for text and linked images and JavaScript for the interactive parts. As such, everything runs on the user's local browser without the need to install third party tools. Also, no cookies (other than we ones used to monitor which parts of the site users visit), no tracking, no ads and no cost; just some pages to play with math. Although things should render fine on phone screens, the pages are easier to work with on machines with larger screens such as tablets, laptops, chromebooks, or desktops.Hopes & DisclaimersThe contents of pages on this site are meant as a general and intuitive introduction to and illustration of some interesting math and math-based subjects. The pages should not be considered or read as a formal or analytical treatise of those subjects. math-to-play-with is a labor of love. Although the authors of these pages have done their best to not make mistakes, they would be very surprised if no mistakes and possibly misconceptions were present. They apologize upfront and welcome feedback and suggestions for improvement. This initiative is only at its initial stages. Hence, the collection of pages to work with is (very) small to start with.
